The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department is aware of a report that power is unavailable to multiple food service operations and retail food establishments located Elm Grove area of Wheeling, WV. It has also been reported that power may be unavailable to this location for several hours. In an effort to ensure proper food safety measures and emergency procedures are taken due to the power outage, we ask that food service operations and retail food establishments take necessary action to protect food and customers from hazards that may be associated with the power outage that can result in unsafe food or unsafe conditions within your operations. Our agency has responded to this reported power outage and is currently on-site to assess the situation and conduct inspections as needed. The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department strongly advises food service operations and retail food establishments monitor all food temperatures to ensure timely response is taken for the power outage to prevent unsafe conditions or sale of potentially unsafe food to the public. The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department can work with establishments to ensure food at a facility is maintained safe, at proper temperatures, and are discarded if exposed to time and temperature variations.
