Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department is announcing thirty-three (33) new cases of COVID-19 in Ohio County since July 19, 2021. Case surveillance, contact tracing, and monitoring continue for many of the reported cases.

Health Department Urging All Students, Teachers and Parents, Age 12+ to Get COVID-19 Vaccine before Back-to-School.
With back-to-school just around the corner, now is the perfect time for students, teachers, staff, and parents who have not yet received a COVID-19 vaccine to get ready to safely return for the new school year. The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department will hold special Vax To School clinics from July 26th to July 30th at the health department.
It is currently just over 5 weeks until the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year. Five weeks is the time frame necessary to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine (21 days between doses for the Pfizer vaccine for ages 12-18, 28 days for the Moderna vaccine for ages 18+) and wait two weeks for the vaccine to be fully effective. By getting vaccinated now, students, staff, teachers and parents in Ohio County can be fully protected within a week of starting school.
The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department and the Wheeling-Ohio County Emergency Management Agency encourage everyone eligible — but especially school-aged children, teens and adults who work within the school system — to get vaccinated as soon as possible to stop preventable cases of COVID-19 before they happen.
The clinics are open to all students and adults. Children under the age of 18 years old receiving the vaccine must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Verification of their birthdate will be required. Walk-ins are welcome

Homebound COVID-19 Vaccination Program
Individuals who are homebound can call the Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department to schedule a home COVID-19 vaccination visit. Ohio County residents can call (304) 234-3682 to set up an appointment and vaccination type.
Ohio County and Ohio Valley residents are advised to limit public contact, implement social distancing, wash their hands frequently, and contact their personal physician if they become ill with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department is reminding Ohio Valley residents that if they are tested for COVID-19 that they are to remain in home isolation until they receive negative test results. Individuals who test positive will be contacted by a county health department and receive further instructions in regard to care and monitoring.
If positive, you should restrict activities outside your home, except for getting medical care. Do not go to work, school, or public areas. If you have a medical appointment, call the healthcare provider and tell them that you have or may have COVID-19 prior to arriving at the facility. This will help the healthcare provider’s office take steps to keep other people from getting infected or exposed.
The off-site Wheeling Hospital COVID-19 testing clinic continues operations. Ohio Valley residents who are interested in being tested at this location should call the on-call number at (304) 221-3995.
