Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department (WOCHD)

The WOCHD is seeking an individual to fill the position of Epidemiologist on a full-time basis.  This position will support epidemiology activities throughout the entire Northern Panhandle of West Virginia including working with the county health departments in Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, and Tyler counties. This position will assist with providing case investigation, contact tracing, consultation, training and other assistance to local health department staff involved in communicable disease investigation and control.  The Regional Epidemiologist (RE) provides and serves as an educational resource to public health professionals, the medical community, government officials, and members of the public.  The RE serves as a liaison between the state infectious disease epidemiology program and local health departments.  The RE conducts epidemiologic case investigations and studies of infections, chronic, environmental, occupational and or sexually transmitted diseases.  The RE develops relationships with reporting sources including physicians, hospitals, clinics, laboratories and others for the purpose of improving disease surveillance and control.  The RE develops related material for media and professionals and contributes toward statewide objectives for epidemiology and laboratory capacity cooperative agreement with CDC.  Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
